SLEEPING

Anything but Standard

Until now there has been little to no consistency in the way maunufacturers have temperature rated sleeping bags in Australia.

After searching the world to see how other countries handle this we have decided to start applying the European Norm (EN) or European Standard to the sleeping bags in the Explore Planet Earth ranges. The Euopean Criterion (EN 13537) has been in effect since 2005 and is currently being voluntarily used in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, New Zealand and over 20 other countries.

What you will notice with our bags, compared to some of our competitors is that our bags are a little bigger. The EN standard ensures our sleeping bags have the right amount and type of filling to provide warmth in the identified temperatures, our competitors have not. In fact, we tested 3 of our competitors -5 degree bags and they came out 10 to 15 degrees different to their claim. So be careful if you really need a bag to be appropriate for +10, 0 or even -10 degree temperatures, look for the EN rating to have confidence on the product you are buying.
